Our Story
Stone & Gerken, P.A. was officially formed on September 1, 1992, by Lewis Stone and Scott Gerken. Lewis was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee where his father was an engineer with the Atomic Energy Commission. He grew up primarily in Green Cove Springs, Florida, graduated from Stetson (both undergraduate and law school) and came to Lake County to work for a local law firm. He then served as a prosecutor in the State Attorney’s office and later as a defense attorney in the Public Defender’s office. He hired Scott Gerken from a large law firm. Before long, recognizing the alignment of legal service philosophies and acknowledging Scott’s talent, he offered Scott a partnership.
Scott Gerken was born and raised in Missouri and is the son of a Missouri Synod Lutheran pastor. He moved to Eustis when he was 10 when his father took a call to serve as pastor at Faith Lutheran Church. Scott attended Eustis High School and enjoyed a quintessential small-town upbringing, where he was valedictorian of his Eustis High graduating class and a member of the 1983 State Championship football team. He graduated from Eustis High School, attended Florida State to academic acclaim, and received a full scholarship to UF Law School, graduating with honors.
After law school, Scott took a job at a large downtown Orlando law firm but soon decided to return to Lake County to practice law in his local community and raise his family. Scott met Lewis when he came to Eustis to visit his parents for Christmas through a mutual church acquaintance. Initially, Scott had no intention of coming back to Lake County, but found himself quickly impressed by the complex and diverse legal matters Lewis was handling in this small town. Scott left the big firm and came “home” to Lake County in April 1992. Five short months later, Stone & Gerken was formed and the rest is history.
